Choosing View Attributes

Guiffy's compare display is grouped into several styles: matching, inserted, deleted, changed, selected, line numbers, fillers and folded markers. Each of these styles has a set of controls for its font and colors (foreground and background).

"Small" differences in changed lines are displayed in "reverse video" - for example:

Built-in Style selections are provided to show some of the possible looks which can be created using the Font and Color controls.

stylesStyle Options

The Style options dialog provides a choice list of built-in Font and Color controls. Choose Options -> Styles to select these controls. As each selection is made, a preview is updated which shows all the style types with their font and color attributes applied. When Apply Font isn't selected, the current Font settings are used.

note Choose a Style that's close to your preferences. Then, customize it via the Font and Color Options. When you've got it just right, Save your Settings... and your personal Guiffy Style will be preserved for all your subsequent usage.

fontsFont Options

The Font options dialog controls Guiffy's fonts applied to matching, inserted, deleted, line numbers, and folded markers text. Choose Options -> Font to select these controls. A font can be selected for All types of text and different fonts can be selected for matching, deleted, inserted, line numbers, or folded marker text. The font, italics, and bold can be set for each type of text. The font size is applied for all types of text. As each selection is made, a preview is updated which shows all the style types with their font and color attributes applied.

note If you are using Guiffy with Unicode or other special encoded file formats, you will need to use a multilingual Unicode font such as Arial Unicode MS or Bitstream Cyberbit.

colorsColor Options

The Color options dialog controls Guiffy's Colors applied to matching, inserted, deleted, selected, line numbers, fillers, and folded marker text. Choose Options -> Color to select these controls. A background color and foreground color for each type of text can be selected. A separate attribute for changed background colors is provided. Color selections can be made from the pallet, using the HSB interface which includes a point-and-pick display, or the RGB interface with slider controls. As each selection is made, a preview is updated which shows all the style types with their color and font attributes applied.

note The variations of themes with colors are almost endless. Just for fun, try defining a "green screen" with a black background and different shades of green for matching, deleted and inserted text. Then, try changing the deleted text to red and inserted text to blue. Now, set the background to a light gray. Well, you get the idea!
